Impetigo

For extensive, severe, or bullous impetigo, use oral antibiotics. 

Reserve topical antibiotics for very localised lesions to reduce the risk of resistance.

Reserve mupirocin for MRSA.

If localised: Topical fusidic acid 2% cream

three to four times daily

5 days

Or if MRSA: mupirocin 2% ointment

three times daily

5 days

If widespreadOral flucloxacillin

500mg four times daily 

7 days

If penicillin allergic:

oral erythromycin

500mg four times daily 

7 days
