Epididymitis - Men under 35 years

For suspected epididymitis in men under 35 years or with high risk of STI .

Refer to Sexual Health Service for further management advice / partner notification.

(Consider testing for HIV.)

Cefotaxime 500mg IM as a single dose, or cefixime 400mg oral followed by 200mg 6-12 hours later, should be added if gonorrhoea strongly suspected or confirmed. (Cefixime dosing based on expert advice due to risk of resistance.)

100mg twice daily

10-14 days

OR co-trimoxazole (off-label use)

960mg twice daily

10-14 days
